This site stems from my own genuine love for urban legends and how quickly they spread, mixed with the wild world of Sailormoon, which despite it's age, is still my favorite anime. My whole interest in Sailor Moon and rumors goes back several years, when The Sailor Senshi Page run by Jackie Chiang opened up a section which she called "The Dumb Rumors Page." Though it originally included rumors that people genuinely believed, such as Uranus being a man or Chibi Chibi being Chibi Usa's daughter, it ran out of those pretty fast and moved on to anything anyone could find. I was a frequent submitter, and in 2000, The Sailor Senshi Page added a section for Honorary Staff, intended to give kudos to people who made major contributions to the site. Along with fellow major rumor submitter S. Volcano, I was noted as being a major contributor to the section. At last, my life long dream of being recognized for wading through piles of Internet crap was realized! I continued my submissions with a warmth in my heart until finally Jackie lost interest in maintaining the section and closed down submission for the page.
Around this time, I had also found myself obsessed with urban legends in general and stumbled upon an urban legends and hoaxes goldmine-Snopes. Suddenly, my urban legends experiences expanded beyond Makoto's supposed gang ties-now it was taken over by hook hands, bug-infested beehive hair-dos, and LSD laced Mickey Mouse stickers.
In April of 2001, I managed to contribute my own piece to the hoaxing world with the now-infamous Sailor Stars Dub e-mail, which you can read on the current legends page. I was amazed how easily it got around, even when it was created and clearly labeled as a joke. After discovering firsthand how easily a joke can unintentionally morph into a full-blown legend, I wanted to submit it to another rumors site to get the word out. Unfortunatly, I found that no other pages dedicated entirely to rumors existed. So, in August 2002, I finally got off my lazy arse and made one myself. In early 2004, it finally became part of the F-D-R.com domain.
Though the full name of the site is "Sailor Moon Urban Legends Central," I've lately been abbreviating it to "SMULC," since the full title is quite a mouthful. I was thinking of other titles entirely, but found I liked "SMULC" better, since who else is going to use one like that?
