Sailormoon X?

An eldery Sailor Moon.
Sailor Moon coming out of retirement?

Last updated: 9/20/02

The news originally broke on Anime on DVD, which keeps track of information concerning anime releases on DVD across the world (though focusing mainly on Region 1). In May 2002, they reported that the website Anime-Daisuki had listed a show entitled "Sailormoon X" as airing this fall. While they added that Anime-Daisuki has been reliable in the past, they couldn't confirm that the new show was, and never actually claimed that it was real. Initial speculation that, with 2002 being the 10th anniversary of Sailor Moon's premiere on both television and in manga form, that the X was intended to be a reference to some anniversary special.

However, according to Usagi and Mamoru.com, they debunked this way back in May 2002, not long after it came out. The truth of the rumor seems to have slipped under the radar since then. According to the webmaster, the actual website only mentioned the summer musical, Mugen Academy Mistress Labyrinth (which completed it's run at the beginning of September) and the listings for the re-runs. Nothing about a new series.

Anime-Daisuki no longer exists, so why they felt this SailormoonX was a TV series remains a mystery. They were given credibility in the past for reporting on the dubbing and Cartoon Network airing of The Big O long before anyone else did, but it seems they lost out this time around. The rumor saw a short revival during 2003 due to some rumblings from SOS, but has since remained in silence, waiting to be dusted off for another round of e-mail chains and forum postings.
