This intriguing pair of Sailor Senshi has been the source of rumors for years. Perhaps it's their
unique status as being lovers, the only such pair in the Sailor Senshi, or perhaps it's the
pairing of the dashingly masculine Haruka with the elegantly feminine Michiru. Either way,
the fascination with this charming pair has lead to quite a following of urban legends.
Haruka and Michiru are related (in the Japanese version.)
Only in the English dub,
where they are cousins, not sisters as many peope like to spout. They are very clearly lovers
in the Japanese version of the show, no matter what anyone tells you. Both of them (some people
seem to be in denial that Michiru can be a lesbian, while with Haruka, it's obvious).
Haruka and Michiru have a child.
Yes, as ridiculous as this rumor sounds, there
are far too many who swear that Michiru has given birth to a child fathered by Haruka. This needs little explanation - it is physically impossible for two women to engage in sexual
intercourse and produce a child. While Haruka and Michiru do raise
Hotaru later in the manga,
they did not give birth to her, she was reverted to a child at the end of the Infinity Arc
and they adopted her (along with Setsuna). There is a BIG difference.
Haruka is a man.
I guess this is how people think Haruka could have impregnated
Michiru. Haruka is female, end of story. Takeuchi Naoko said so herself at the San Diego
ComiCon in 1998, where she was a guest of Mixxzine. She also said the same thing in a 1996
interview in an Italian magazine (Kappa) that she intentionally made the pair lesbians.
A man cannot be a lesbian.
Haruka is a hermaphrodite.
Sigh...poor Haruka. She is a woman. She is entirely
a woman. She has always been a woman, and she will remain a woman. This one comes from a line
in the manga where Haruka is described as the Senshi of both genders. This was not a reference to
her physical characteristics, but actually to her personality.
Haruka can change gender at will.

Haruka and Michiru live together.
Not right away in the manga, and never in the anime.
They are shown living in different apartments in both series, but at the end of the Infinity Arc, they move in with Setsuna so they can all raise Hotaru. However, a tour of the house reveals they
sleep in separate rooms.
